“Modern Buddhist Studies – Issue of Causality”
Students, scientists and interested researchers are welcome to participate in the conference on Modern Buddhist Studies. The topic range covers the phenomenon of Western Buddhism and the relationship of Dharma with Western science in general. This involves both historical and linguistic research of ancient sources as well as their implications and correlations in modern research, life and culture. The conference is interdisciplinary and open to international contributions from religious and cognitive perspectives as well as from standpoints of culture, art and social studies, philosophy, psychology and philology, in order to form a cross-sectional view of the phenomenon of causality.
The proposed topic does not exhaust the thematic range of the conference. Scholars interested in the issue of Buddhism in the Western culture, its literary associations, philosophical comparative studies, artistic, educational or IT influences are welcome to submit their speech proposals.
The conference is scheduled for 2-3 June 2011 at Opole University, Philosophy Department (Collegium Civitas). All participants, active and passive are welcome.
All interested scientists and researchers are obliged to submit their 200 words presentation abstracts with their name, thesis title, degree and university affiliation specified. Abstracts are to be sent to email@example.com until 10 May 2011. Every participant will be informed whether they qualified to deliver their speech until 17 May 2011.
The presentation should take 20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion. Languages acceptable: Polish and English. A detailed program shall be presented a week before the conference.
If requested, accommodation may be booked. Possible locations: Hotel „Zacisze”, ul. Grunwaldzka 28, price: 65-200 zł./person, Dormitories at students’ Campus ul. Kośnego- 22-40zł/person (1eur=ca. 4zł).
Prices: 88 PLN (22EUR) - for BA, MA and PhD students, 178PLN (44EUR) - for academic staff. Payable to a bank account (disclosed upon request) in advance or in cash upon arrival. Fee involves snacks and post conference materials. No food other than snacks between sessions will be provided.
A post-conference publication is scheduled in form of a first issue of a magazine: Modern Buddhist Studies, published in both Polish and English. Due to the international character of the magazine, as well as its online accessibility the preferred contribution language is English, Polish, however, is acceptable. The style should conform to standard MLA or APA requirements depending on the subject matter of the text. Only the most interesting texts, which will receive a positive peer-review will be published. Deadline for article submission is 30 July 2011.
